Join Today!
On behalf of the organization, I want to thank you for your interest in joining the 10th Virginia Infantry; the premiere,
authentic, campaign regiment in the Shenandoah Valley. We appreciate your interest and hope this page will give you an idea of what we are trying to accomplish with this organization.
We are a historical and educational living history unit organized in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. The Valley was the home of the original 10th Virginia. The unit was active from before Manassas to Appomattox.
The purpose of this organization is to preserve and perpetuate the memory of the Confederate soldier in general, and the men of the 10th Virginia in particular. We do this in several ways; The first and foremost is by educating the public through the historically accurate portrayal of the soldiers from the 10th Virginia Infantry. Our unit teaches the public through a living history format during reenactments, camp displays and while participating in appropriate dedications, ceremonies and festivals. We are also involved with preservation of local, state, and national historic sites. We are limited only by historical fact as it applies to the 10th Virginia.
This regiment is organized and ran as close to the original as is humanly possible. Company grade and non-commissioned officers are elected by their companies, as was the policy during the War. Rank structure is based on the number of men in the company. The unit uses the Manual of Instruction for the Volunteers and Militia of the Confederate States by William Gilham. We live the life of the soldiers of the 10th Virginia as close to the originals as possible whenever we are in uniform. This includes, but is not limited to: camp life, drill, food (preparation, quantity, and type), uniforms, accoutrements, weapons, attitudes and knowledge.
If you are looking for a unique experience and want to step back into the past some 150 years, learn about the lifestyle and gain insight into the character and concerns of the Confederate soldier, then this is the unit for you. Please feel free to contact me directly if you would like more information.
Your Obedient Servant,
Jeremy B. Hilliard
